While it's always possible to find notes by counting up and down the musical alphabet one space/line at a time, you can speed up the memorization process a bit by being able to jump through the lines or spaces of the staff in a given clef. For the treble clef, we like "Elvis's Guitar Broke Down Friday" in order to memorize the lines on the staff. And to memorize the spaces from bottom to top, the letters spell the word "FACE."
