Introduction to the Grand Staff

A grand staff

The pair of connected staves you see in above are called the grand staff. It was primarily developed for reading and playing keyboard instruments like the piano. The grand staff consists of two staves, one on top of the other, most often with a treble clef in the top staff and a bass clef in the bottom staff. Even if you do not want to play piano, all can benefit from a general understanding of how the grand staff works, as it is an excellent way to display a variety of music in a condensed and clear format, from piano and orchestral scores to choir music.
